The GMR Group chairman, Mr G.M. Rao, has announced a matching grant of $250000 to NRI Vasavi Association to serve the poor in India.
He said that if the grant fulfils the purpose, he may consider a further grant. Mr Rao was awarded the lifetime achievement award by NRI Vasavi Association, USA, at Washington DC during its three-day convention from September 3.
This was the first global convention of NRIVA, and was attended by about 1,500 members from across the world. NRIVA was started in the USA in 2007 with the theme, ‘Connecting to Serve’, and has 22 chapters worldwide including in India, the US, the UK and Gulf. It is also counted as one of the most powerful Telugu associations in the US.
