Atlanta Telugu community under the auspicious leadership of Greater Atlanta Telugu Association (GATA) will celebrate Sankranthi, the festival of harvest on Saturday, January 21, 2012 with gaiety and traditional fervor. The venue will be South Forsyth High School, Cumming, GA. The activities will include rangoli, kite-flying, bommala koluvu, muggulu, haridasu, gangireddulu to resemble the Sankranthi atmosphere that we were part of growing up back home. In addition, there will be Kuchipudi, Bharatha Naatyam, Kathak, flute, tabla, cello and various dance, singing and fashion shows from local talent.
Local Telugu poets will sing some Telugu poems and audience would be awarded some gifts for their answers to some impromptu fun quizzes. There will be awards to local prominent Telugu personalities.
All the guests are requested to wear traditional Telugu dress for the occasion and sharing of the event information with their neighbors and friends is appreciated greatly.
Zafran Indian restaurant will serve snacks and dinner for the guests.
