Do You Know? 2 Journalists Earn ₹602 Cr As Their Stake

NDTV Founders Prannoy and Radhika Roy will earn over ₹602 crore from selling their combined 27.26% stake in the news broadcaster to Adani Enterprises, according to exchange filings.

The billionaire Gautam Adani-led company acquired shares from Roys at ₹342.65 per share through several block deals that were completed on Friday. Prannoy and Radhika now own 2.5% stake each in NDTV.

Musk On Toilet Paper News

Twitter employees are reportedly bringing their own toilet paper to the office after Elon Musk fired the janitorial staff. A New York Times report said Twitter has moved all staff onto two floors, a move that has left the company headquarters in "disarray". When asked if it was true, Musk said, "BYOTP! Lol, it was true for half a day."

Lands Greeting New Year First And Last

The first countries in the world to welcome New Year will be the Pacific islands of Tonga, Samoa and Kiribati, where January 1 begins at 10am GMT or 3:30pm (IST) on December 31. The last places to welcome New Year will be the uninhabited Howland and Baker Islands, near the US, at 12pm GMT or 5:30pm IST on January 1.

40% of US COVID Cases By Omicron Subvariant XBB.1.5

More than 40% of COVID-19 cases in the US are now caused by the highly contagious Omicron XBB.1.5, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data showed. Seven of the 10 states in the US where cases and hospitalisations are rising are in the Northeast, concurrent with an increase of XBB cases there, Michael Osterholm, an infectious disease expert, said.
