Bodos release Andhra engineer

A civil engineer from the state, Polagani Krishna Rao, who was abducted by suspected Bodo militants in Assam on October 16, was released on Tuesday morning.

Krishna Rao called up his wife Rajeshwari at Gannavaram in Krishna district immediately and told that he was released safely at a place called Karigaon in Kokrajhar district in Assam. He would be coming back to Gannavaram on Wednesday.

The engineer was working as a project manager with East Coast Insulation Company, a subsidiary of Gayatri Projects, promoted by Congress MP T Subbarami Reddy, which is executing works on National Highway No. 31 at Jaoipur in Kakrajhar district of Asom. He was kidnapped by the suspected militants of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), while he was supervising the works on October 16. The militants reportedly demanded Rs 1 crore as ransom from the construction company to release Krishna Rao. It is believed that the construction company had a settlement with the militants for payment of certain undisclosed amount.
