Cancer is one of the world’s most feared diseases. Due to the high volume of cases reported and lack of cures, cancer proves itself to be a problem many admirable people try to tackle. One such person is Dr. B.S. Srinath.
In India, where medical treatment is a luxury to many, Dr. Srinath, a veteran oncologist, aims to provide free treatment for cancer patients across the nation.
To work towards his long and monumental goal of ridding India and then the world of cancer, Sri Shankara Cancer Foundation was conceived in 2011 and operational starting in 2012 with the sole purpose of helping people.
The Sri Shankara National Center for Cancer Prevention and Research was inaugurated by the President of India, Sri Pranab Mukherjee, on Dec 30, 2016.
The center has been treating patients of all races, classes, and creed without profit. The main objective is to provide enough treatment to the poorest constituents and subsidize the medicine and operations required for their treatment.
The Foundation is focused to conceive, build and sustain programs and initiatives aimed at helping the underprivileged common man in the fight against cancer, carry out community activities for promoting education and awareness about the disease, and support research initiatives.
This selfless institution has thrived through the efforts of the Foundation and its volunteers. Their main vision for the future is to guarantee that no patient would be turned down treatment due to a lack of financial resources. Unfortunately, fighting cancer is a herculean task that no man or hospital can take on alone.
Treatment of cancer today involves very expensive equipment and the medicines required are exorbitantly expensive limiting the scope of treatment to those who can afford.
Due to these high overhead costs and lack of treatment options for the middle and lower classes, hospitals cannot function without our generous donations.
Curing cancer will never be attributed to one single man and in order to fight the disease, it must be a collective effort as humans to dispel the world of the disease.
