It is known that there has been a wide spread opinion that Apollo Hospitals treated the dead body of Maddelachervu Suri and carried on big hungama as it was portrayed in the movie ‘Tagore’. Reacting to that, Apollo Desk has given clarification to media this way.
“It is extremely unfortunate that such unscientific and baseless issues are becoming a focus of discussion. It is prudent to mention the following facts in this connection:
1. When a patient is brought to the hospital, the sole objective of the doctors is to do everything to save the life of a patient. When a patient is brought in a collapsed state, the doctors follow a globally standardized protocol to resuscitate the patient. If after a reasonable time of resuscitation the patient cannot be revived then the patient is declared ‘Brought dead’. However if some cardiac activity returns, resuscitative efforts are continued and based on the patients condition further management is undertaken. Such patients who have return of some cardiac activity after resuscitative attempts cannot be declared as brought dead.
2. The patient mentioned by you was brought in a collapsed state and aggressive resuscitative measures were taken up. Cardiac rhythm returned and sustained for a while and stopped once again. Once again as per protocol resuscitative measures were taken up and only after the doctors were convinced that the patient was beyond revival death was declared. This is a standard protocol and followed across the world.
3. You must also be informed of the fact that a significant number of patients who are brought to the hospital in a collapsed state, recover completely after resuscitation.
4. It is also not out of place to mention that not a single paisa was charged on the patient mentioned by you. Therefore a blanket statement in this regards is nothing short of a blatant effort to malign the reputation of institutions.
5. Medical profession as a whole is committed to save lives and does everything possible to save the life of every individual that is presented to doctors. The community must help preserve this philosophy and support it, rather than create an environment that pushes the medical fraternity into defensive medicine.
6. One irresponsible report in the media seems to have created this impression in your mind. We have initiated legal action against the said media house as the report is completely baseless, unscientific and created with ulterior motives.
