Amazon is preparing to announce the largest layoffs in its history starting Tuesday, CNBC reported.
The e-commerce giant is expected to cut around 30,000 jobs from its corporate workforce, making it one of the biggest job reductions ever seen in the tech industry.
Employees will start receiving layoff notices via email Tuesday morning, according to a source familiar with the matter.
With more than 1.54 million employees worldwide; including about 350,000 in corporate roles; Amazon is the second-largest private employer in the U.S.
The planned layoffs would mark the biggest corporate downsizing since at least 2020, according to Layoffs.fyi.
This comes amid a wave of cuts across the tech industry: Microsoft has laid off 15,000 people, Meta 600, Google over 100, Salesforce 4,000, and Intel 22,000 so far this year.
Amazon has been conducting rolling layoffs since 2022, letting go of over 27,000 employees in various divisions including cloud, retail, communications, and devices.
