After Nepal, Now France Under Public Violence

As the turmoil and violence in Nepal is still settling, France is now facing a sudden outburst of public anger and unrest.

On Wednesday, massive protests under the "Block Everything" movement spread across major French cities. Demonstrators blocked roads, lit fires and clashed violently with police.

Tear gas filled the streets, buses were torched, and barricades were erected. Over 200 protesters were arrested in the first hours.

The protests erupted just after Prime Minister Francois Bayrou lost a confidence vote.

In response, President Emmanuel Macron appointed Defence Minister Sebastien Lecornu as the new prime minister, the fifth in under two years. The unrest coincided with his swearing-in, making the political crisis even more tense.

The movement, started online in May, first by right-wing groups and later taken over by left wing activists, reflects growing dissatisfaction with Macron’s policies.

About 80,000 police have been deployed as videos of arson, violence and clashes flood social media.
