Sankara Nethralaya USA Hosts a Grand Evening in Dallas, Generating Funds to Support 6,000 Cataract Surgeries Through the Adopt-a-Village Program.
The Jack Singley Auditorium in Irving, Texas, was transformed into a vibrant stage of culture and compassion as Sankara Nethralaya USA hosted Music & Dance for Vision, a philanthropic celebration to support the Mobile Eye Surgical Unit (MESU) initiative.
With over 400 attendees, the event began at 4:00 PM and showcased the power of community, art, and service in the mission to eradicate preventable blindness in rural India. In their opening remarks, “This event is a testament to what we can achieve when compassion meets community,” said Dr. Reddy Urimindi, Board of Trustees, reflecting on the collective spirit that brought the evening to life.
Chinasatyam Veernapu, Chapter Vice President-Dallas, added, “Dallas has always stood strong for this cause, and tonight’s turnout reaffirms our shared commitment to restoring sight and dignity.” “The MESU initiative is not just about mobile surgery—it’s about mobilizing hope,” remarked Bala Reddy Indurti, President of Sankara Nethralaya USA, emphasizing the transformative impact of the evening’s efforts.
A Soulful Opening to a Memorable Evening
The event commenced with a soul-stirring musical segment that set a reverent and uplifting tone for the evening. A series of devotional and classical compositions, performed by gifted vocalists and instrumentalists, resonated deeply with the audience, reflecting the spirit of service, gratitude, and unity.
A special tribute goes to the talented singers—Janaki Shankar, Santosh Khammamkar, Prabhakar Kota, Bharathi Angalakuditi, and Kameswari Charan—whose captivating performances infused the program with emotion and grace. Their artistry, seamlessly coordinated by Ravi Tupurani, added a profound and memorable dimension to the evening, earning heartfelt applause and admiration from all in attendance.
Following the musical prelude, the stage came alive with a dazzling array of classical Indian dance performances. Dance academies from across the Dallas-Fort Worth area—including Natyanjali Kuchipudi Dance School, Kuchipudi Kalakshetra, Abhinaya Kuchipudi Dance Academy, Tatya Performing Arts, Natyom Dance Academy, Tandavam School of Kuchipudi, Raagaleena Dance Academy, and solo performer Rithika Gangabattina from Austin —presented thematic pieces rooted in tradition and storytelling.
