Help Needed to save Laxman Dusa

Help Needed to save Laxman Dusa

On December 9th 2010, 33 year old Laxman Dusa suffered a major  stroke in his brain stem due to a blood clot in the pons area.  The stroke has left him badly paralyzed. He is suffering from an extremely rare and debilitating condition known as '"locked-in syndrome". Laxman cannot move, cannot speak, cannot swallow food and is fighting to keep his dignity. Otherwise,  the stroke has cruelly spared virtually all of Laxman's conscious and unconscious processing systems.

His memory, his  reason, and his emotions are all intact. He can see and hear and feel emotions - and feel pain - but he has no way of communicating except by moving his eyelids up-and-down. He is an active  mind trapped inside an unresponsive body.

Day of the Stroke
Laxman had just returned to his office in Parsippany , New Jersey from a visit to the dentist. He called Madhu, his wife, and told her that he was feeling a bit dizzy. Madhu offered to come down to his office and drive him back home but Laxman assured her that that wasn't going to be necessary. However a few minutes later, he was walking to his cube in his office when he collapsed on the floor, unable to speak or move. A blood clot had formed in a part of his brain stem called the pons, causing a stroke right at the juncture where his body met his mind. He was rushed to an emergency facility 3 miles down the road, where, after a delay , a CAT scan was performed which confirmed that he had indeed suffered from a stroke. He was then moved to another hospital 20 miles away in Summit, New Jersey, which specializes in neuroscience. A thrombolytic was administered and a catheter was used to reach the blood clot to dissolve it. Unfortunately, the stroke had already caused its damage.
