Why was Kapu Corporation MD sacked?

The unceremonious sacking of Andhra Pradesh State Kapu Welfare Corporation managing director Dr R Amarendra Kumar on corruption charges has raised many eyebrows, leading to the talk that he had to face the axe for not favouring only the yellow batch.

Amarendra was brought on deputation to the Kapu Corporation constituted in January 2016 to counter the demand made by Kapu strongman Mudragada Padmanabham for inclusion of Kapus in BC list.

It was meant to appease Kapus with various monetary benefits and to dilute the demand for BC status.

The government allocated funds for the Kapu Corporation to give loans to budding entrepreneurs and provide coaching to youth for competitive exams.

While the allegations levelled against Amarendra was that he had amassed huge wealth fudging the funds intended for loans and coaching programmes like Chandranna Videsi Deevena and Chandranna Vidyonnati, the fact is said to be the other way round.

He reportedly obstructed the misuse of funds in the name of these schemes by chairman Ch Ramanujaya, a senior TDP leader.

While Amarendra tried to extend benefits to all the eligible beneficiaries, the chairman insisted that the beneficiaries be from among the TDP workers.

Finally, the issued reached climax on Saturday with the removal of Amarendra. He was not even allowed to address the media to give his explanation.

“This is atrocious. Amarendra is a sincere officer but he was made scapegoat in the issue. But that is Naidu’s style of branding a dog as made only to kill it. Amarendra was projected as corrupt as an excuse to remove him from the post,” former chief secretary I Y R Krishna Rao alleged.
