We Can't Pay Salaries: Chandra Babu

We Can't Pay Salaries: Chandra Babu

Speaking to the national media in capital New Delhi, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandra Babu projected a sorry state of affairs or rather finances in AP.

He said that due to paucity of funds, his government was unable to pay salaries to employees.

He said that they had to divert funds from various developmental plans to give salaries to employees.

Babu did not mince words while complaining that though the Prime Minister had announced Rs 1000 crores for cyclone relief, a substantial amount of money did not reach the state due to various clauses and sub-clauses.

On the other hand, the state had to spend Rs 1900 crores for relief measures in Vizag, he revealed.

Coming to the contentious issue of Polavaram project, Babu said that while the Centre maintained that it would shell out funds once the project is declared as a national project, it must also consider giving Rs 5000 crores which was spent by the state government in the past.

He added that he put in a request to minister Uma Bharathi regarding the same.

Similarly, he said he sought central aid from Gadkari to build national highways connecting Vijayawada to other important cities and towns in India.

Godavari Pushkaralu that come every 12 years are due this year and it is a big event with lakhs of people coming to have a holy dip in the river.

Chandra Babu informed that he discussed the issue with the Prime Minister and also requested the Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar to give enough security forces and funds to ensure the event is managed peacefully.
