YSR Congress party on Monday demanded a probe into the growing number of suicides in the private educational institutions in the state and the reasons for the social disorder.
Indirectly referring to state minister for urban development P Narayana, YSR Congress party MLA G Srikanth Reddy said: “The head of the institutions has been very close to N Chandrababu Naidu. Though students are committing suicides on a regular basis the reason has not been probed so far.”
He alleged that the corporatization of education sector has hit the system very badly and people who are running a chain of institutions have a secured place in the cabinet and are benamis of Chandrababu Naidu which is why no action has been taken so far on the institutions.
“There is every effort to promote the institutions and government schools are being closed down to benefit them and the policies are heavily loaded in favour of private institutions,” he said.
Srikanth Reddy said the parents who committed suicide in Guntur shows the frustration of students and parents who are being harassed by corporate colleges and student organizations should give a serious thinking on the issue and seek explanation from the government.
