KCR wants powers to increase assembly seats!

Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao considers himself to be a superman in politics.

While he doesn’t care for the opposition parties, he has also started questioning even the Centre and its constitutional powers.

His latest attack on the Centre is that it is not respecting the powers of the state and honouring the federal spirit of the constitution.

“We have taken up delimitation of districts last year and created as many as 21 new districts to decentralise powers down to villages to give good governance and speedy delivery of services at the doorsteps of people.

The administrative reforms are the rights of the states. The Centre has nothing to do with the delimitation of districts in Telangana,” he said.

So far so good. But KCR went a step further and demanded that even the powers to increase the number of assembly constituencies should be in the hands of the state.

“It is for the states to decide how many MLAs they should have. Why should it require the Centre’s approval? Delimitation of assembly constituencies has to be done for keeping in view the extent of population and administrative convenience.

There are some constituencies which are spread in two or three districts. This is causing a lot of inconvenience. Why should we be at the mercy of the Centre?” he asked.

This is a bit too much, as the Constitution of India has clearly mentioned as to how the delimitation of assembly constituencies has to be done.

Does KCR want to change the constitution? And what additional benefit the people will get if the number of MLAs goes up? There will be additional power centres in the districts, additional burden on the exchequer and more infighting in the parties.

It will only help rehabilitation of politically unemployed!
