After comparing with the struggle for special category status to Andhra Pradesh with the movement for separate Telangana, YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy seems to have decided to follow the strategy to be adopted by Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao in achieving his goal.
It may be mentioned that during his struggle for separate Telangana between 2006 and 2009, KCR used the tactic of forcing his party MLAs and MPs to resign from their seats and seek fresh mandate from the people on the plank of separate Telangana demand.
And everytime, he and his party leaders won the by-elections with huge majority. It was a way of explaining to the world that the people are strongly backing the demand for separate Telangana. Thus, he could sustain the Telangana sentiment for long by going in for repeated by-elections.
Now, Jagan is also planning to adopt the same strategy. He announced that he was contemplating forcing his party MPs resign from their posts and contest fresh by-elections on the single point agenda: Special category status.
His aim is to see that all those who get re-elected would get huge majority to prove that the people are not happy with the special package but want only special category status.
In the meantime, if the defected MLAs also get disqualified, the YSRC would win more assembly seats in the by-elections.
Thus, Jagan wants to adopt the KCR strategy to sustain the movement for special category status till 2019 elections!
