Purandareswari and Kalvakuntla Kavitha have some common features. Both their fathers have served as chief ministers and both the women served as MPs. Of course, KCR and Kavitha are still in power.
Though NTR was in active politics for a very long time, it was only after his demise that Purandareswari come into politics and became a MP.
As for Kavitha, she started getting involved in active politics after her father started a separate Telangana agitation.
So, what is the common point between Purandareswari and Kavitha?
Well, both of them have attained celebrity status like the film stars after becoming MPs.
In the past, when Purandareswari was the MP, she would mostly live in Delhi and rarely visited her constituency. During the one odd occasion that she would drop by, it would be for the inauguration of either saree shops or gold shops.
In fact, according to locals, many gold and saree shops in Vizag have been inaugurated by Purandareswari like this. It is said that the invitation would be extended in Delhi and she would come by to inaugurate the stores. Since women naturally love clothes and jewels, she would spend a lot of time looking at the various items on display. On the other hand, she rarely met her constituency voters and this resulted in her losing their confidence.
Now, it is the turn of Kavitha. She is nothing short of a celebrity in the city. Name any big saree shop or gold shop, she is chief guest at the event. Though she was part of Telangana agitations and appeared to be a rebel candidate, after bifurcation, she mostly spends her time inaugurating stores just like Purandareswari.
