Has The Power Gone To KCR's Head?

Has The Power Gone To KCR's Head?

After the thumping victory of TRS in Warangal Lok Sabha bypoll, recent GHMC elections and Narayankhed Assembly bypolls, TRS chief and Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao gave a message to his party leaders and cadre that they should not allow the power and victory to go into their heads and remain more humble that earlier.

However, a week later, KCR proved that these kind of preachings were meant only for others and for him to follow.

After the election wins, KCR ordered officials to close GOs website (government orders) abruptly. This website has been functioning for over a decade giving access to general public over the decisions taken by government on funds released for various purposes ensuring transparency, accountability and good governance. None of the CMs had any problem by posting GOs online.

If any CM does not want to disclose any GO, they had a provision to upload them as 'confidential GO', in which there will be no content for general public to view.

TRS government has already issued 500 confidential GOs while AP government issued about 800 confidential GOs putting public in dark over what they pertain to.

Despite this, KCR has decided not to post any GO and close the website all of a sudden giving indications that he is a 'dictator' and power and victory have indeed gone into his head.

On the other hand, the AP government's GO website is functioning normally.

KCR feels that there is no need for public to know the every GO released by the government. This is in blatant violation of Right to Information Act. He said people are approaching courts against government based on these GOs. But one thing KCR fails to realise is that if his government did nothing wrong, where was the need to fear court cases.

The time has come for constitutional head like Governor to act on this and ensure restoration of GOs website  to ensure transparency and accountability on the part of government, which remain the main spirit of democracy.
