With just a week or 10 days left for the announcement of schedule for the by-election to the Jubilee Hills assembly constituency in Hyderabad, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi quickly decided its candidate, ahead of its political rivals – the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party.
On Friday, BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao announced Maganti Sunitha Gopinath as the party’s candidate for the upcoming by-election to the Jubilee Hills assembly seat.
She is the widow of sitting MLA Maganti Gopinath, whose sudden death necessitated the by-election.
An official statement from the BRS said KCR has decided to nominate late Gopinath’s wife, Maganti Sunitha, as the candidate giving priority to the wishes of Jubilee Hills residents and recognizing the late leader’s services,
Party sources said the decision was taken after considering her integrity and commitment, while also honouring the contributions made by Gopinath to both the BRS and the people.
KCR reportedly felt that continuing the political legacy of Gopinath’s family was in line with the aspirations of the constituency.
The Congress is considering the candidature of Navin Goud, son of former MLA Kuna Srisailam Goud. However, former Secunderabad MP Anjan Kumar Yadav has also thrown his hat into the ring.
While the BJP is yet to come out with any names for the Jubilee Hills polls, there is a talk that former MLA P Vishnu Vardhan Reddy might also contest the elections with the support of Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha.
