It has been more than a month since Bharat Rashtra Samithi MLC and Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha has virtually raised a banner of revolt against the party leadership; but surprisingly, there has been no response from it till now.
It was on May 2 that Kavitha had written a letter to her father and BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao raising several crucial issues including the neglect of genuine party leaders and cadre and its soft stand towards the Bharatiya Janata Party.
On May 10, she addressed a press conference wherein she expressed unhappiness over the party not denying the rumours being floated against her on social media by some vested interests (indirectly targeting her brother K T Rama Rao) and warned that she would expose those elements.
While she left for the US for her son’s graduation ceremony, the BRS leadership leaked her letter to the media to show that she was revolting against the party and that she had crossed the party line.
After returning from the US, Kavitha stepped up her attack against her detractors in the party.
While trying to prove that she is still loyal to her father, Kavitha described the leaders around him as “devils” and went on record saying there was a conspiracy to merge the BRS with the BJP, which she stalled.
It has been more than four weeks since she made explosive statements, but the party chose to completely ignore her.
When she went to her father’s farmhouse at Erravelli on June 11, KCR did not even look at her, let alone speak to her.
Her brother K T Rama Rao, who also returned from his US trip, did not utter a single word to comment on her statements. No BRS leader is meeting her and nobody from the party is attending her meetings in districts.
It appears that Kavitha has decided to sever ties with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). In this context, she held a separate meeting with members of her organization, Telangana Jagruti.
Not only that, she has also formed her own committees in the Singareni region, where she has good hold.
Kavitha’s move to now announce the Telangana Jagruthi executive committee and appoint coordinators independently of the BRS is being interpreted by political observers as a clear indication of the direction her political journey is heading.
It appears that Kavitha is gradually distancing herself from the BRS. She has now started aggressively in support of “Social Telangana.”
On Saturday, student leaders from different organisations joined Telangana Jagruthi. She has given up her pink scarf and is now wearing a new scarf designed for the organisation.
Kavitha called upon the student community to rise and lead the movement for ‘Samajika Telangana’ (social justice in Telangana).
She highlighted the historic role of students in the Telangana statehood movement, stating that students fought in the forefront during the Telangana agitation and played a critical role in its success.
“With the same spirit, they must now lead the charge in achieving social justice in Telangana,” she said.
