Who are TRS coverts in Congress?

With the Telangana Rashtra Samithi’s mega public meeting generating a lot of political heat in the state, the Congress party is also getting ready to face the eventuality.

Like the TRS, the Congress party is also preparing itself to release the first list of candidates in the last week of September.

But what is worrying the party leadership now is the presence of “coverts” within the party, who are indirectly helping the TRS. Though the leadership is aware of such coverts, it cannot name them openly, as there is no evidence to that effect.

At the National Students Union of India meeting held at Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday, senior Congress leader and ex-MP V Hanumantha Rao warned against the anti-party activities by some coverts who were actually helping Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

“We should be wary of such coverts and they should be weeded out much before the commencement of the election process,” he said.

Now, the question is who those coverts are. According to party sources, the main suspects are Komatireddy brothers – Nalgonda MLA Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and MLC Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, besides leaders like Damodar Rajanarasimha, Mukesh Goud and Bhikshapathi Yadav etc.

Though they are still in the Congress party, their followers and supporters are indirectly supporting the TRS, the party suspects.

“Once the TRS declares the list of candidates, there would be some clarity on what these coverts would do,” a senior leader said.
