Vijayawada: Even as the AP government deployed police personnel in large numbers in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and other cities to prevent youth from protesting for special category status (SCS), several took to social media sites to give vent to their anguish.
Tweets and posts criticising chief minister Chandrababu Naidu started pouring in from Thursday morning as the police took hundreds of people into custody .
While #APFightsForSpecialStatus and #APDemandsSpecialStatus trended on Twitter, several people also tweeted with #DethroneChandrababu and #ShameOnAPGovernment tags. "We regret voting you to power," was another tweet targeting Naidu.
"The government is afraid of even silent protests. This is exposing the insecurity of Naidu and his cabinet mini sters," read a post on Facebook.
Some of the youth questioned the chief minister as to why his government was crushing the agitation which is aimed at mounting pressure on the Union government.
"When we are protesting against the Union government, why is Naidu reacting? Should we infer that the allegations of opposition parties that he mortgaged special category status for coming out of the cash for vote scam are indeed true?" they asked.
