The Telangana state formation process has been put on a fast track.
There are clear indications available from Delhi about the intention of the UPA government to speed up the process,
The Group of Ministers (GoM) and the central government are moving in tandem to complete the exercise as quickly as possible.
Efforts are on to prepare the Draft Telangana Bill and send it to Andhra Pradesh Assembly by November 25.
The seven-member GoM has set Thursday as the deadline to various central ministries to send in their inputs on the bifurcation of the state.
These ministries include Water Resources, Power, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Law, Department of Personnel, Education, Health and others. The inputs received from them would be discussed in the second meeting of the panel slated for October 19.
Ever since the GoM held its first meeting in Delhi on October 11, a sense of urgency has been infused into the exercise and the process of receiving inputs from various ministries has been put on fast track.
At the same time, the Centre also asked the state government to send a report on the economic and social conditions of the state by Thursday evening.
The Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami wrote to the State Chief Secretary PK Mohanty seeking information regarding various departments including agriculture, industry, power, irrigation and industries, besides other details about loans of the government, revenue inflows, status of government employees and pending recruitments.
At the same time, the GoM has also invited feedback from general public. An email ID, feedbacktogom-mha.nic.in, has been earmarked to enable people to send in their views on the terms of reference.
According to sources close to the GoM, letters have already been sent to all the ministries concerned after the first meeting of the GoM.
The terms of reference of the bifurcation not only include a fair and balanced division of resources but also look into issues of law and order and safety and security of people of all regions.
