Will AP Capital Be Ready By 2036?

Will AP Capital Be Ready By 2036?

If Chandrababu Naidu's facts and figures are right, then the proposed capital of Andhra Pradesh would be much much bigger than the National Capital itself.

What is interesting is that it would be bigger than Singapore city-state itself and it would be constructed by Singapore companies, which haven't built bigger cities.

As per the CRDA, the seed capital, or the area with the AP Legislative Assembly, Secretariat, government offices, ministerial and MLA quarters and others would be built in1300 acres out of the seed capital area of 3500 acres.

Sources in CRDA say that they took Kazakh capital of Astana as their model. Astana is a planned city designed by a Japanese architect.

It houses the Parliament house, the supreme court, the presidential palace, numerous government departments, futuristic buildings, hotels and skyscrapers. But, Astana was built in just 750 acres.

Gujarat's capital Gandhinagar has 1500 acres. But, in AP, the office areas alone would be built in 3500 acres. Chandrababu says that AP's capital would be unlike Gandhinagar as the latter has not grown into a city.

But, the biggest question is how long will it take for the 3500 acres to fully develop. Chhattisgarh capital of Naya Raipur took 20 years and is still incomplete. If AP also goes by the same speed, we will have a capital only by 2036!!
