Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA from Parkal in Telangana Challa Dharma Reddy is understood to have lost Rs 57 lakh to some “Koya Doras” who promised that they would get him a berth in the K Chandrasekhar Rao cabinet by performing special pujas.
Though the MLA is now denying of having paid money to these tribal godmen, he has admitted that his daughter Manasa Reddy had paid them huge money in instalments only to ward off evil forces and for good health of the family members.
Manasa lodged a complaint with the Warangal police that two Koya Doras came to her six months ago and told her that her father’s family was going through a bad phase and that they would perform special prayers to ward off evil forces. They also promised that they would ensure that Dharma Reddy would become a minister in KCR cabinet.
Initially, Manasa paid them Rs 1 lakh, but later, the conmen fleeced her for more and more money, stating that they would perform special pujas in various temples across the country. In all, they collected Rs 57 lakh from her in the last six months.
And two days ago, when they wanted more money for the pujas, Manasa got suspicious and sought to know why her father had not become a minister, since KCR already ruled out any cabinet expansion. She wanted her money back, but the duo escaped. The police are now in search of them.
