Controversial spiritual leader and Sree Peetham seer Swami Paripoornanand is going to lead the Bharatiya Janata Party campaign in Telangana in the forthcoming assembly elections.
Paripoornananda will join the BJP in the presence of BJP national president Amit Shah in New Delhi on Friday evening.
He is also likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi later in the day, party sources in Hyderabad said.
The Sree Peetham seer, who left for New Delhi in the morning following a call from the BJP high command, had a closed door meeting with Amit Shah and general secretary Ram Madhav to discuss the present political scenario in the state.
“Once the strategy is finalized, he will formally join the BJP later in the evening, before meeting the Prime Minister,” party sources said.
Once Paripoornanda joins the BJP, the party leadership is likely to make drastic changes in the party structure in Telangana.
Though the seer might not be made the party head immediately, he will be projected as the BJP’s chief campaigner with all powers to lead the party in the next elections.
The BJP national leadership seems to have thought Paripoornanda will be the right face of the party in the coming elections.
He will be projected as Yogi Adityanath of Telangana, so as to galvanise Hindus and get the maximum mileage.
However, it is not clear whether Paripoornananda is interested in contesting the assembly elections or the Lok Sabha polls.
But it remains to be seen how far the BJP leaders and cadre accept him as their boss, since he is a new entrant into politics.
