Nearly 5000 Telugu students in Tamil Nadu will now have to write their SSC exams in Tamil because of a new rule passed by the Jayalalitha government.
This rule is openly intolerant of other Indian languages and cultures and reflects the self-centeredness and populism of the government there.
Chennai needs drinking water from the Andhras but they can’t bear to see the Andhras protect their native language in Tamil Nadu.
The Andhras should pay them back in the same coin by closing all Tamil medium schools, colleges and DSC centres in Chittoor and other places where they exist.
Perhaps, they will understand then! Jayalalitha was the one who wrote a letter to the BJP asking that special status not be conferred on Andhra.
She and her kind would do well to remember that when Chennai was ravaged by floods, it was the entire nation that came forward to support them.
So such acts of jingoism on her part, as in the present instance are absolutely uncalled for! But if persisted with, they should be given a befitting reply.
