Let them hold pig fights, who cares?

Let them hold pig fights, who cares?

Union minister of state for science and technology Y S Chowdary aka Sujana Chowdary made some derogatory comments against the youth who have spontaneously responded to the call for a silent rally at Rama Krishna beach in Visakhapatnam on Thursday to demand special category status for Andhra Pradesh.

Reacting to the media queries on Jallikattu-type agitation by the youth at R K Beach planned by the Opposition parties, Sujana Chowdary expressed his impatience, saying there was no link between special category status and Jallikattu.

“If they want Jallikattu, let them hold it. If they want cockfights or even pig fights, we have no objection. But we cannot allow any rallies for special status, which is now a closed chapter, at the Visakhapatnam beach to disrupt peaceful atmosphere,” the minister said.

His remarks have obviously not gone down well with the youth agitating for special category status. Jana Sena leader Kalyan reacted strongly in the electronic media, saying Sujana Chowdary was insulting the cause of special status.

“We are not asking for holding Jallikattu. All that we have asked the people to take the spirit of the Tamils’ movement and fight for the just cause of special status. It is unfortunate that the union minister sought to ridicule our agitation,” he said.
