The 105th edition of the prestigious Indian Science Congress, which was supposed to be held in Osmania University from January 3 to 7 has now been shifted to Manipur Central University at Imphal, thanks to the alleged indifferent attitude of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government headed by K Chandrasekhar Rao.
The reason cited by the Indian Science Congress Association for cancelling the event at Osmania University is the precarious law and order situation on the campus, as indicated by the intelligence department of the KCR government.
Obviously, KCR wanted to blame it on the OU students, who have been against him right from the beginning.
But now, KCR himself has come under fire for sacrificing the prestige of the OU for his personal vendetta against OU students.
The students called for a bandh on Thursday in protest against the fiasco caused by the TRS government.
Soon after the news of Science Congress getting shifted to Manipur came out, there were reports in the social media that OU vice-chancellor S Ramachandram had resigned from his post.
Along with him, the registrar also reportedly resigned. However, they issued a clarification later in the evening denying the reports of their resignation. Apparently, they got a dressing down from the chief minister.
Finally, the vice-chancellor appealed to the students, faculty and staff of university to remain focused on academics and put behind the postponement of the Indian Science Congress.
He said the University was well-prepared to conduct the science congress and could have conducted the event without any glitches. He, however, did not mention why the event had to be shifted to Manipur.
