In a virtual slap on the face of Andhra Pradesh police, YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Friday refused to give a statement on the Thursday’s attack on him at the Visakhapatnam airport.
A team of police officials headed by Visakahapatnam deputy commissioner of police Mahendra Patrudu arrived in Hyderabad late Thursday night to record his statement.
The team met Jagan at Citi Neuro Centre hospital in Banjra Hills on Friday morning.
But Jagan told them bluntly that he had no faith in the Andhra Pradesh police and so, he would not like to give any statement to them for recording.
“Go and come with any official of the Central investigating agency. Then I will give my version,” he said.
Obviously, Jagan was irked with the “spontaneous” statements by AP director general of police R P Thakur and others that the assailant Janipalli Srinivas was a fan of the YSRC and he had resorted to the attack to get sympathy to Jagan to win the 2019 elections.
Having no other option, the Andhra police returned to Visakhapatnam empty handed. It remains to be seen what they would include in their investigation report.
Jagan later got discharged from the hospital and went to his Lotus Pond residence. The doctors have advised him to take rest for another three or four days.
