Is It Right To Stop These Channels?

The controversy involving TV9 and ABN Andhra Jyothi channels continues in Telangana. Telangana MSO president Subhash Reddy has announced that TV9 and Andhra Jyothi will be stopped from being aired.

He threatened that TV9 which made fun of Assembly members will not be spared and that strict action would be taken against the channel.

He also launched an attack on Andhra Jyothi channel and said that the channel was spitting venom on Telangana government and giving it negative publicity. So, both the channels will be stopped he said.

Given this background, it has to be mentioned that TV9 had publicly rendered an apology for projecting the Telangana MLAs in a bad light and reiterated that such mistakes would not be repeated in future.

Despite this, the latest announcement by Subhash Reddy came as a surprise blow to media persons in the city. Many are wondering how far it would be appropriate to stop the channels from being aired.

On the other hand, the issue is pending with the Speaker in the Assembly. Making such announcements before the Speaker’s decision has left many wondering if such drastic measures are correct.
