How Many Foundations For Polavaram?

How Many Foundations For Polavaram?

Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu wants to gain publicity even for a small event and he does not hesitate to seek publicity for the same event again and again.

Take for example, the construction of Polavaram dam. Foundation stones were laid for the project at least half a dozen times in the last several decades and during Y S Rajasekhar Reddy regime, the project had actually commenced amidst lot fanfare. And the works on the main project began during the Kiran Kumar Reddy regime.

But after Naidu came to power, the situation has come back to square one. He had laid foundation stones for every work as if to claim that it was he who had actually taken up the Polavaram dam works. And every Monday, he has been reviewing the works and gaining publicity in the papers.

On Thursday, Naidu once again laid yet another foundation stone for the construction of coffer dam and spill channel iconic bridge at the Polavaram project site.

Construction of coffer dam is a routine affair as part of the project work to divert the water flow during the construction of the main dam. There is no need for any separate foundation stone for it. Yet, Naidu did it as if it is a major milestone in the project!

Naidu said that the project works have been expedited and the coffer dam will be finished in a year adding that the water would be released into the canals by next June.

He reviewed all the works of the construction of 48 crest gates, spillway, the diaphragm wall and stated that the project will be completed on schedule.

Stating that there won't be any shortage of drinking or irrigation water once the project is completed, Naidu said that the Polavaram project site could also be developed as a major tourist attraction in the two Godavari districts.

On the spill channel iconic bridge, he said that the idea is to develop the project site as a tourist spot and a museum is being planned to explain the progress of the works.
