After keeping the media guessing for several months over his proposed action plan to enter active politics and giving a lot of hype to his agenda for farmers, former joint director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) V V Lakshminarayana turned out to be a damp squib.
Lakshminarayana shelved his plan to launch a new political party and decided to join Lok Satta, a virtually defunct political party which was founded by former bureaucrat Dr Jayaprakash Narayan, much to the surprise of political observers.
JP had wound up the party long ago, after he failed to sustain it following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
The presence of Jayaprakash Narayan at the press meet held by Lakshminarayana at Indira Priyadarshini auditorium itself pissed off many journalists and political enthusiasts and they were thoroughly disappointed when Lakshminarayana accepted JP’s invitation to join Lok Satta.
Though Lakshminarayana did not elaborate on what he is going to do in the coming days, it is learnt he has decided to revive Lok Satta Party in Andhra Pradesh and head the same.
He declared that he would contest the next general elections in the state and would welcome if any like-minded people want to contest the elections.
After taking voluntary retirement in March last, ex-CBI JD toured several districts to study problems plaguing the agricultural sector.
He tried to create awareness among rural youth about aspects like Zero Budget and Gramin Secretariat etc.
Lakshminarayana reportedly held consultations with former IAS and IPS officers over the prevailing political situation and on Sunday he met Loksatta chief Jayaprakash Narayana. This was followed by his decision of putting on hold the plan of political party and eventually the former JD choose Lok Satta party as the platform to serve people.
One wonders whether there is any space for such soft-spoken leaders like Lakshminarayana in Andhra politics, which is filled with aggressive leaders like Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and Pawan Kalyan, who are going all out to pull down a shrewd politician like Chandrababu Naidu from power.
