If the reports coming from Maha Kootami sources are to be believed, the Congress is now forced to scale down the number of seats it is going to contest from 95 to 90.
The decision follows an announcement by the Communist Party of India that it was going to contest in nine seats, if there was a deadlock in the seat sharing talks.
CPI leader Chada Venkat Reddy announced that his party would contest in Husnabad, Bellampalli, Kothagudem, Wyra, Wyra, Pinapaka, Mancherial, Devarakonda and Munugode. If the alliance materialises, the CPI will reduce its number to five, he said.
On the other hand, the TJS also declared that it would be contesting in 10 assembly constituencies.
TJS president M Kodandaram went on record before the media on Monday morning, even as the alliance talks were scheduled to be continued in the evening.
With both the CPI and TJS remaining stubborn on the number of seats and sending signals that they might walk out, the Congress has decided to go softer with them.
The party leadership realized that if the alliance breaks, the Congress will be the biggest sufferer.
Keeping this in mind, the party has decided to forego 4 to 5 seats and accommodate CPI and TJS. It started re-thinking on four to five seats and in a process of convincing its leaders and cadre.
