Center Once Again Shocks T And AP!

If there was one thing that the politicians of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana agreed on, it was to fight together to secure the de-limitation for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

According to the AP Reorganization Act 2014, the number of assembly seats in AP and Telangana should be increased from 175 to 225 and 119 to 153, respectively. However, the Act did not mention a time limit for the de-limitation process.

When KCR met the Chief Election Commissioner asking the latter to kick start the process, he was told that the process would only take place in 2026 along with that of the other States.

The Union Government said that de-limitation had taken place in 2002 and according to the Constitution, it can take place again only in 2026.

Political parties in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana had been eagerly awaiting the delimitation of constituencies in the hope of accommodating more leaders as MLA’s.

The Center’s decision has put paid to their hopes. Interestingly, the delimitation process for SC reserved constituencies in Uttar Pradesh has been completed in recent times.

So, how can UP be given special favor and the Constitution be quoted when it comes to AP?
