The YSR Congress party put up a massive show of strength as its president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy entered Vijayawada, the political epicentre of Andhra Pradesh, on Saturday, as part of his “Praja Sankalpam” padayatra.
A sea of humanity flooded Kanaka Durgamma Varadhi, as Jagan walked across the bridge on Krishna river into Vijayawada.
The bridge was blocked by thousands of people coming from different parts of Vijayawada. The traffic came to a virtual standstill for over two hours, as Jagan walked across the bridge along with his party leaders and followers.
Former minister Botsa Satyanarayana, Gudivada MLA Kodali Nani, former MLAs Vangaveeti Radha, Vellampalli Srinivas and Yalamanchili Ravi and others welcomed Jagan into Vijayawada.
The massive response from the people gave a lot of enthusiasm to the YSR Congress party, while it created tremors in the Telugu Desam Party camp.
The reports that several top leaders of the TDP might join the YSRC during Jagan’s padayatra in Vijayawada in the next few days have caused a lot of worry to party president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, party sources said.
“Jagan’s padayatra from now on will be the deciding factor in the next elections and it remains to be seen how the TDP will come out with its own strategies to counter his onslaught,” a political correspondent in Vijayawada said.
