YSRC sweeps panchayat polls in all the four spells

Ruling YSR Congress leaders and cadres celebrated the massive win of YSRC supporters in the Gram Panchayat polls, including the fourth and last phase elections, at the central party office at Tadepalli on Sunday night.

The party supporters won over 10,000 village panchayats of the total 13,000 panchayats that went to polls.

The process of panchayat elections was completed with the final phase elections held on Sunday.

The principal opposition TDP remained a distant runner-up as its supporters could win just around 2000 villages, which is just around 16 percent of the total panchayats. Amidst apprehensions, the elections were held almost peacefully in all the districts.

The state election authority and panchayat raj commissioner Girija Shankar had announced that the elections for the village panchayats were held better than in the past without giving scope for violence.

BJP-Jana Sena alliance supported candidates won about 140 villages while the independent candidates clinched victory in nearly 300 villages in all the four phases.

YSRC supporters marched with victories in all the four spells with almost 82 percent seats.

While elections were held for 3245 panchayats in the first phase, 3,225 villages went to polls in the second phase. Similarly, elections were held for 3216 villages in the third phase and 2235 villages in the final phase.

Curiously, YSRC secured 2,616 sarpanch posts in the first phase, 2,654 seats in the second phase and 2605 sarpanch posts in the third phase.

The performance in the final phase was no less to the previous rounds as it scored nearly 2,300 panchayaths of the 2,900 villages where the counting was completed.

Counting of votes in another 200 villages was going on till late night.
