Will Vizag receive a boost in investments now?

The uncertainty in the location of a capital city for Andhra Pradesh for the last two and a half years has resulted in a confusion of sorts among the industrialists who want to invest money in the state in various fields.

When Amaravati was projected as the capital city of Andhra Pradesh, during the Chandrababu Naidu regime, a number of industrialists evinced interest in pumping in their investments in the state, but even before these proposals materialised, the government changed.

With the Jagan government dumping Amaravati and proposed three capital cities for the state with executive capital at Visakhapatnam, the investors once again showed some interest but with the proposal getting caught in the legal wrangle, uncertainty looms large over the new investments.

However, the Jagan government has been sending a lot of indications that it is firm on developing Visakhapatnam as the executive capital. It is projecting the port city as a potential city for investments. But the uncertainty continued to haunt the state.

Now with the Centre indirectly acknowledging that Visakhapatnam is going to be the executive capital of the state, there is a ray of hope for the Jagan government.

On Friday, the Indian Navy announced introduction of a new Naval ship soon in Mumbai and it would be named as “AP Executive Capital City.”

Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh, who met Jagan at the latter’s Tadepalli residence, told that a Naval ship, INS Visakhapatnam, will soon be launched in Mumbai under the name of AP Executive Capital City.

This is definitely a shot in the arm for the Jagan government. It should now launch extensive promotion of the same at various investment summits to attract industrialists to the state, irrespective of the outcome of the high court.

In the meantime, if the chief minister shifts his camp office to Viskhapatnam, it will further boost the prospects of investments to the state, say sources.
