Who brought Kia Motors to AP?

When Telugu Desam Party was in power till recently, party president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu used to make tall claims time and again that Kia Motors had come to Andhra Pradesh to set up its car manufacturing unit in Anantapur district only because of his efforts.

As the production of cars is all set to commence, Naidu lost power in the state and the project is now all set to be inaugurated by new chief minister and YSR Congress party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Naturally, Jagan does not want to give any credit to Naidu for bringing car factory to AP.

His finance minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy claimed that the global giant Kia motors established their manufacturing unit here in Andhra Pradesh only on request of former chief minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy.

He made a statement to this effect in the assembly, Reddy reminded that YSR had written a letter to the company during his tenure to establish the manufacturing unit yin Andhra Pradesh.

“The Kia Motors chairman admitted this in his letter to Jagan recently,” he said.

The TDP leaders, however, laughiedmat finance minister for his undue claims by saying that the company came to the state only because of the efforts of previous government and subsidies offered to them by Naidu.

Before the recent elections, even Bharatiya Janata Party had claimed credit for the establishment of Kia Factory in Anantapur.

The BJP leaders argued that the Kia Motors had agreed to set up its unit in AP as part of Make India campaign of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The deal was signed between India and South Korea during Modi’s visit to Seoul in the past,” BJP state president Kanna Lakshminarayana said.
