What next? Jagan consulting legal experts

With Andhra Pradesh legislative council chairman Mohd Ahmed Sharif sending the two crucial bills on the capital city to the select committee, YSR Congress party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is working out all options to find a way forward.

Soon after the assembly was adjourned after a brief discussion on the English medium bill, Jagan went into a huddle with legal experts, including senior advocate and former advocate general Mukul Rohatgi, to discuss what steps the government should take to expedite the process of three capitals formation.

Apart from the legal experts, senior YSRC leaders including master strategist V Vijay Sai Reddy, advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, Jagan’s uncle Y V Subba Reddy, ministers including Botsa Satyanarayana, Buggana Rajendranath Reddy, Perni Nani and K Kanna Babu, principal advisor Ajeya Kallam and a few MLAs, attended the meeting.

Apparently, Jagan is angry with the yesterday’s developments. He reportedly pulled up his party seniors for failing to assess the situation and work out strategies accordingly.

“We should not have given any scope for the TDP to gain an upper hand in this regard,” the chief minister is learnt to have commented.

He asked the legal experts to suggest alternatives to see that the three capitals plan is expedited – whether the government can promulgate an ordinance when the bills were sent to the select committee or go in for abolition of legislative council.

A concrete solution is likely to emerge from the meeting by afternoon. A couple of ministers reportedly felt that it would not make any difference even if the bills go to the select committee and get delayed by three or four months.

“In a way it is a blessing in disguise, as the agitations would subside for now and we can start negotiating with the farmers to accept the package we are offering,” a minister said.
