A tragic train accident near Bahanaga railway station in Odisha's Balasore district on Friday evening has potentially claimed the lives of over 100 passengers heading to various destinations in Andhra Pradesh.

According to initial reports, both the Coramandel and Yashwantpur Express trains have suffered numerous casualties, with confirmation of 50 deaths received by a senior railway official from the Waltair Division, as stated to Deccan Chronicle.

The Waltair Division has provided a passenger list indicating that 364 individuals were onboard the train, traveling to different locations in Andhra Pradesh.

"We are receiving numerous calls from concerned individuals inquiring about their family members who were traveling on the ill-fated train. Visakhapatnam city is home to a large number of Bengali families, and many relatives of those working in the railways in Kharagpur, Santaragachi, and Shalimar reside in North Andhra," said a source.

In response to the tragedy, two senior officials from the state, Arun Kumar and Joint Collector of Srikakulam Naveen, have been dispatched to Balasore on the instructions of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
