After a modest start in September, Tesla’s sales in India saw a notable decline in October.
According to registration data, the electric carmaker sold only 40 units in October, compared to 64 units in September, bringing its total sales to 104 vehicles since entry.
Industry experts note that the drop could be due to supply constraints, pricing, and limited dealership presence as Tesla continues to test the Indian market ahead of a larger rollout.
The company has not yet launched localized production or established official showrooms, with its vehicles currently being imported as completely built units (CBUs) — attracting high import duties.
While the numbers remain small, analysts say Tesla’s gradual entry could be part of a market research phase before finalizing investment plans for a domestic manufacturing plant.
If Tesla proceeds with its India manufacturing project, industry observers believe that local assembly could slash prices by 20–25%, making the cars more accessible to Indian buyers and boosting volumes.
For now, however, Tesla’s sales figures suggest that the company is still in the early stages of market testing rather than mass expansion.
