TDP To Lose More MLCs This Year

TDP To Lose More MLCs This Year

The beleaguered opposition TDP is set to lose its strength in the Legislative Council, where the party had been creating hurdles to the ruling YSR Congress.

The TDP is set to lose three MLCs in the Assembly quota, when the MLAs vote on March 15.

TDP MLCs Thippe Swamy, Sandhya Rani and Venkanna Chowdary are retiring on March 29, 2021 and there is no scope of even one of them or any one from outside getting elected to the Council from the Assembly quota.

The TDP has just 23 members, though three of them have distanced from the party by now.

Again in May this year, the TDP is losing Council chairman Shariff, who was elected in Assembly quota, who is retiring on May 24.

From among the 10 nominated members, the TDP will lose three with the retirement of Gownivari Sreenivasulu, Beeda Ravichandra and T D Janardhan, on June 11 this year.

In all, seven members in the next five months, while all the seven would be a gain for the ruling YSR Congress.

Interestingly, the TDP is also set to lose another 10 members in the local body quota as the MLCs representing, one each from Viziangaram, Chittoor and East Godavari, two each from Krishna, Guntur, Visakhapatnam local bodies, in June this year.

The TDP had lost three MLCs representing Guntur, Prakasam and Ananthapur districts, as they left the party after the 2019 general elections.

If the TDP could win even half of them from the local bodies, the remaining half would be a gain to the YSR Congress and it would be able to establish a clear majority in the Legislative Council.
