TDP Ex-MLA Joins YSR Congress

TDP senior leader and former MLA S M Ziauddhin joined the ruling YSR Congress on Tuesday.

He joined the party in the presence of party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy in his camp office.

Ziauddhin is the brother of late S M Lal Jan Basha, the general secretary of the party and was a two-time MP.

Basha was Lok Sabha member from Guntur from 1991 to 1996 and Rajya Sabha member from 2002 to 2008.

Basha played key role in rallying the Muslim minorities around the TDP till his death in 2013.

Ziauddhin won from Guntur I in 1994 and 1999 and lost the battle in 2004. He also lost the election in 2009.

However, the party did not give him ticket since then pushing him to the background.

Ziauddhin was accompanied by Guntur East MLA S M Mustafa and MLC Lella Appi Reddy.

Ziauddhin’s exit is set to have adverse impact on the TDP in Guntur politics.

The TDP had already lost its sitting MLA Maddali Giridhar, who left the party after the 2019 elections and is now sailing with the ruling YSR Congress.
