TDP Attack On Marshals Referred To Ethics Panel

TDP Attack On Marshals Referred To Ethics Panel

The alleged attack on marshals of the Andhra Pradesh assembly by Telugu Desam Party members after their suspension from the House on Tuesday was referred to the ethics committee headed by YSR Congress party MLA Ambati Rambabu.

As many as 12 TDP MLAs were suspended from the assembly by Speaker Tammineni Sitaram on Tuesday, after they tried to disrupt the proceedings of the House.

When the TDP legislators refused to move out of the House, the Speaker called marshals, who bodily lifted the MLAs to take them out.

In the process, there was a clash between the MLAs and the marshals. Some of the marshals alleged that the TDP members attacked them while being evicted from the House. They complained about it to the Speaker, who said he would look into it.

On Wednesday, Sitaram referred the matter to the Ethics Committee asking it to look into the alleged unruly behaviour of TDP leaders in manhandling the security personnel.

The Speaker ruled that the Committee submit its report as early as possible. Terming the incident as unfortunate, the Speaker said the leaders should respect the House and the decisions being taken by the Chair.

“It is the duty of the marshals to follow the orders of the Chair as they have done earlier. The TDP leaders should cooperate to run the House or agree to the suspension decision taken by the Chair,” he said.

Sitaram felt that it was not correct on the part of the TDP members to manhandle the marshals and after consultation with Legislative Affairs Minister, he had decided to refer the matter to Ethics Committee.
