Sai Reddy pulls up judiciary, says it crossed limits

YSR Congress party general secretary and Rajya Sabha member V Vijay Sai Reddy came down heavily on the judiciary for its alleged undue interference in the administrative matters of the state governments.

Referring to the Andhra Pradesh high court’s order declaring Amaravati as the only capital of the state, Sai Reddy said in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that the courts had no locus standi in deciding the location of the state capital.

“The capital city is an issue which has to be decided by the state government. It is for the state governments to decide where the capital cities have to be located. Our government has decided to have three capitals. It is our right. We shall decide where our capital has to be located,” he said.

Making a strong comments against judiciary, Sai Reddy said the state high court had crossed its limits while giving its judgement on the capital of Andhra Pradesh and declaring that the state legislature has no competence to decide the capital location.

When Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankar repeatedly questioned whether Sai Reddy had any evidence to substantiate his allegations, the latter said the court had decided that Amaravati was the only capital city and the state legislature had no legal powers to decide the capital.

The YSRC leader pointed out that in several states, the administration and the high court were located at different places.

“We have every right to decide our own capital location. Nobody can question that,” he asserted.
