Ravi Prakash moves SC for bail!

Ravi Prakash moves SC for bail!

Former chief executive officer of TV9 television channel V Ravi Prakash is making last ditch attempts from being arrested by the police in connection with the criminal cases filed against him by the new management of the channel.

With almost all the doors for escaping from the arrest being closed, Ravi Prakash on Tuesday moved the Supreme Court seeking anticipatory bail as a last resort. The bail petition will come up for hearing later in the day.

It may be mentioned that the Telangana high court last week struck down the anticipatory bail petition of Ravi Prakash, stating that there were no reasons to believe that he would be arrested if he cooperated with the police investigating the case.

The Cybercrime police of Cyberabad served a notice on him under Section 41A of Criminal Procedure Code in crime no 84/19 May 21, asking him to appear before them on May 23.

But, Ravi Prakash did not turn up before the police on the pretext that his petition was pending with National Company Law Tribunal for disposal.

But on Friday last, the NCLT bench struck down the petition filed by SAIF III Mauritius Company Limited against Associated Broadcasting Company Private Limited (APCL), the promoter of TV9, questioning the sale of majority stakes to Alanda Media.

Since SAIF has finally agreed to the deal between ABCL and Alanda Media, its petition has become infructuous. The NCLT gave clearance to the deal between the two companies.

It also struck down the petition filed by actor Shivaji questioning the deal and change of management without intimating the shareholders.

So, Ravi Prakash had exhausted all options to avoid police interrogation.

As a last resort, he moved the Supreme Court for avoiding being arrested, since he was apprehensive that the moment he appears before the court, he would be arrested.
