Opinion: Please Act On It!

The magisterial enquiry into the Royal Vasishta boat capsize incident in River Godavari near Kachaluru village of Devipatnam mandal in East Godavari district, began on Friday.

East Godavari Joint Collector Lakshmi Shah said the enquiry will be carried out in a fair manner and the report would be submitted to the government within 15 days.

It is good to see a deadline being formulated for the submission of the report and that too, a short period of just 15 days.

However, equally important is to act on the findings of the report and take stern action against the culprits responsible for the tragedy without any delay.

In this case, it might not be difficult as there seem to be no political party candidates involved but it would be worth the while to take a route down memory lane.

When the Godavari Pushkaram stampede happened during Naidu’s rule, there as an enquiry ordered which took its own sweet time to submit the final report.

Ultimately, the report exonerated all officials and Naidu from any wrongdoing which meant that nobody was held responsible for the administrative lapse which led to the stampede and eventual loss of lives.

Similarly, when the ‘land scam’ in Vizag came to light, Naidu once again constituted an enquiry committee which submitted it report to him. Naidu never made public, the findings of the report. Why?

The point here is that if YS Jagan really wishes to provide effective governance, then he should act in an unbiased fashion on the recommendations of the fact-finding committees, this will earn him the credibility of all sections of society.

Else he would just be going the Chandrababu way.
