After several high-profile YSR Congress Party leaders, including sitting Rajampet MP Peddireddy Mithun Reddy and Raj Kesireddy, it is now the turn of former Chandragiri MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy to face trial in the sensational multi-crore liquor scam that allegedly took place during the Jagan Mohan Reddy regime.
On Tuesday, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the liquor scam filed a memo in the special court for ACB cases, naming Chevireddy as Accused No. 38 (A-38) in the case.
Immigration authorities took Chevireddy into custody at Bengaluru airport, where he had arrived to board a flight to Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Tuesday morning, as a lookout circular had been issued against him.
The immigration authorities informed the Andhra Pradesh police, who are expected to arrest him later in the night. The SIT is likely to shift him to Vijayawada by Wednesday morning, sources said.
Meanwhile, Chevireddy’s son Mohith Reddy strongly condemned the TDP-led coalition government for allegedly conspiring to falsely implicate his father in the liquor scam.
He accused SIT officials of using coercion and police pressure to extract false statements from Bhaskar Reddy’s former gunmen.
He warned the government that power is temporary and using the police as pawns to target YSRCP leaders would not go unchallenged.
He also cautioned police officers that such unlawful actions would make them answerable before the courts.
