Kothapalli dilemma: TDP or Jana Sena?

Kothapalli dilemma: TDP or Jana Sena?

Former minister and senior leader from Narasapuram assembly constituency Kothapalli Subbarayudu, who has recently been expelled from the YSR Congress party, is in a dilemma on choosing his next course of action.

Subbarayudu told reporters that he would definitely contest the next assembly elections, but he is yet to choose which party he should contest from.

“I will let you know in a month or two, but I will join that party which will get state-wide benefit from my entry,” he said.

He said he would not confine to just his Narasapuram constituency, but would campaign for the party he would join, across the state.

“I think by Dasara festival, I will give you clarity on which party I will join,” he said.

It is leant Subbarayudu has been sending feelers to the Telugu Desam Party leadership that he is interested in joining the party, but so far there has been no response from the other side, because of his previous vacillating stand.

If there is no response from the TDP, Subbarayudu might look up to Jana Sena Party led by power star Pawan Kalyan, which has considerable vote bank in Narasapuram.

But here, too, he might face resistance, because there are too many aspirants for the seat within the party.

However, since Subbarayudu has some image and cadre support in the constituency, he may still be a preferred choice for both the TDP and Jana Sena. So, it will be interesting to see which way he would go.

Subbarayudu won the assembly elections for the first time in 1989 elections and represented Narasapur four times. He also served as power minister in Chandrababu Naidu cabinet.

In 2009, however, he joined Praja Rajyam Party and lost the Narasapuram seat. But won the seat again in the by-polls from the same constituency on behalf of the Congress party.

Before 2014, he joined the YSR Congress party and lost the elections to the TDP from Narasapuram.

Subsequently, he returned to the TDP and again before 2019 elections, he quit the TDP and was back in YSRC.

He did not get the party ticket from Narasapuram, but was assured of MLC seat, which he did not get. Since then, he had turned a rebel and was sacked from the party ultimately.
