Kanna Bats For Nimmagadda, Complains To Guv

Even as the fate of retired IAS officer Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar with regard to his reinstatement as state election commissioner has been hanging in balance, BJP Party state president Kanna Lakshminarayana has chosen to bat for Nimmagadda.

On Wednesday, Kanna wrote to Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan complaining that the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government was interfering in the affairs of an autonomous institution like state election commission.

“The ruling YSRC had indulged in large scale irregularities in the local body elections, giving a go-bye to the democratic values. When the SEC suspended two police officials, apart from shifting two collectors and two superintendents of police, the Jagan government did not implement the same and continued them,” the BJP leader alleged.

He said when the SEC postponed the elections on account of Coronavirus threat, the Jagan government launched a vilifying campaign against Nimmagadda.

“It brought in an ordinance to remove Nimmagadda. Even after high court directed reinstatement of the SEC, the government has ignored it,” he said.

Kanna alleged that the Jagan government had mobilised police forces to prevent entry of Nimmagadda into the SEC office.

“We request you to use your powers at the head of the state to protect the Constitutional rights of the SEC,” he said.
